Taking my hat off for Greta and XR…

I just want to take my hat off to Greta Thumberg, Jem Bendell, XR, courageous school Scan_20190503 (9)children and even the Beeb, who each in their own way non violently stepped out to draw attention to the lack of action in the face of overwhelming evidence of catastrophic loss of species and climate change.

There is absolutely no doubt that what they have shared has brought greater attention and as a consequence personal and political will to taking wise action in relation to the evidence.

They have drawn attention to the fact that it is not just our children and great grandchildren, but already this generation’s lives now and even more, so much sooner than had been thought are being affected by climate change*, species loss, and pollution, even if that is information some people are afraid to squarely look at, for it asks us to imperatively address change. Though the changes needed have the possibility to a much richer life serving a greater good rather than just a narrow self and greed, initially it seems scary.

*One example of this is how drought and other extreme weather is making living conditions too difficult in certain areas of the world, often compounding imposed historical inequalities, and so leading to climate refugees, another is the visible and invisible pollution of our bodies and seas, with plastics and toxins, and another the drastic decline in insects even that form the foundation of life.
